• Any Aran weight #4 Cotton yarn
• Hook: US H8 / 5.00 mm
• Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape

Sizes

• One size – measure depends on your yarn choice. 

Stitch Key

• Ch = Chain, Sc = Single Crochet, Sl St = Slip Stitch, Dc = Double crochet

Notes

• This pattern is worked in rounds
• This pattern has three parts: two hexagons and a handle
• Handle length is up to your choice.
• Ch3 always counts as 1st stitch
• You do not need to turn your work, keep working on the same side

Instructions

We will work two identical hexagons

Start with a magic circle, ch3(counts as 1st st), dc2, ch1, dc3, ch1,dc3,ch1,dc3, ch1, dc3,ch1,dc3,ch1 and sl st to 3rd ch to close the round.

Now you have 6 clusters with 3 double crochets each

Round1:ch3 (counts as 1st dc), dc2 in ch space you just made before sl st to close the round- It may look like you are going backwards, but it is just the first cluster on every round, continue with 3dc cluster in next ch space, ch1, dc3 cluster in same ch space,*[ dc3 in next ch space, ch1, dc3 in same ch space]* repeat from * to * in every ch space until you reach the last one where you already have dc3, so dc3, and ch1 in this 1st ch space and sl st to 3rd ch to close the round.

You should have 6 ( dc3+ch1+dc3) clusters

These will be your corners, you will work the same (dc3+ch1+dc3) in each round on the corners.

Round 2: ch3 (counts as 1st dc), dc2 in ch space you just made before sl st to close the round, now move forward, dc3 in between two corners, between two dc3 clusters, dc3 + ch1+dc3 in ch space, *[dc3 between next two corners,  dc3 + ch1+dc3 in ch space]* repeat from * to * until you reach the last corner where you already have dc3 cluster, dc3 +ch1 and sl st to 3rd ch.

Round 2 is the pattern for the hexagon, you can repeat it as many rounds as you want your bag to be.

I worked 9 rounds for this measurement.

Work a second hexagon exactly the same.

The Strap

The strap/ handle will go around the hexagon to give it body and will be joined with sl st to both hexagons

You can decide how wide it will be.

I worked 7 stitches

R1: Ch 8 , sc 1 in 2nd st from hook, sc1 in next st and across to end of row

R2: ch1 and turn your work, sc1 in 1st st from hook, sc1 in next st, and across to end of row

Repeat row 2 at least 150 rows, measure your hexagon to make sure you have enough to join around and length for the handle.

Finishing the bag

Lay first  hexagon flat,  right side up 

Start joining the handle. make a slip knot and sl st each the two stitches together, one from the hexagon and the second from the handle, continue around until you have five parts all joined and a long handle waiting to be joined

The sixth part is the open part of the bag.

Turn your work and lay your second hexagon right side up, now join the handle to the second hexagon forming the bag.

Remember to leave the sixth part without a handle

When you reach the end of the fifth part, skip the sixth and join the handle with sl st to the beginning.

Secure your yarn, cut, and weave in your ends
