Every time I stood at a big crossroads in my life, I came back to crochet.

I was born in Argentina. My grandmother on my father’s side was Turkish. Her house was full of doilies, and I loved them. She never taught me to crochet herself, she told me stories instead, and let me sit with her and her women friends over tea and oranges on the patio. I was the first grandaughter, and I was close to both my grandmothers.

I learned to crochet at seven or eight, from my mom, in Argentina. A few years later, my parents decided to move our family to Israel. We went alone, no aunts, no uncles, no grandparents came with us. Then there was an ocean between us, and after that, I grew up without any extended family close by.

But crochet came with me. It didn’t need translating. It didn’t need everyone else to be in the room. It was already mine before any of that changed.

Belonging has always been something I’ve had to work at, not something handed to me. I’m very much Israeli now. But somewhere underneath that, I think I’ll always be an immigrant too. Maybe that’s part of why family means so much to me, and maybe it’s part of why I keep coming back to something I can just start, with my own hands, no matter where I am.

Then came COVID. I left my job in rehab work. I picked crochet back up, and that’s when I found this whole world, YouTube, blogs, all of it, for the first time.

I never thought of myself as creative. That changed watching crochet calm women going through real challenges in my rehab work. And then I noticed the same thing happening to me, in my own hands, at my own kitchen table. It calms them the way it calms me.

Not complicated, not intricate for its own sake. Just something achievable, calm, something you can start without knowing exactly where it will end.

A little about me now

I live in beautiful Haifa, Israel, with a view of the Mediterranean. I’m mom to three amazing daughters, and grandma of two

I know how it feels when the top does not fit, or the pattern is too complicated, and you get lost and discouraged, you feel down and put your work aside. I want you to get back to your crocheting with joy, calmness, no stress, and a real sense of achievement.

My patterns reflect that. If it is for gifting, donating, or selling, it is all okay. It is not about me really, it is about you.
