Crochet Slouchy Hat Free Pattern – Starry Nights

I’m so excited to share my newest crochet slouchy hat free pattern with you, the Starry Nights Slouchy Hat!

This design was inspired by those cozy evenings when the sky is deep and full of stars.

Using black and white colors, you know… they are always trendy and never expire!

This hat has the perfect bit of slouch for everyday wear, and it’s one of those projects you’ll actually enjoy making (and wearing!).

The pattern is part of our 2025 From Us to You Crochet Donation Challenge and was specially designed to celebrate October’s Halloween times.

Using the spike double croche stitch, the Starry Nights hat keeps you warm and cozy , perfect as a handmade gift, charity donation, or a timeless piece to wear proudly.

This hat pattern is part of a set. Follow the main post of the CAL event to find the matching scarf that will be published by October 29th , 2025

How to Crochet the Spike Double Crochet Stitch for a Slouchy Hat

One of the things that makes the Starry Nights Slouchy Hat crochet pattern really shine is the spike double crochet stitch.

It’s a simple stitch that adds so much texture and depth, perfect for giving this slouchy hat its flowing, starry-night feel. Instead of working into the top of the stitch like usual, you reach down into the row below, which creates that fun, elongated look.

If you’ve never tried the spike double crochet before, don’t worry , I’ve got you covered! I put together a step-by-step video tutorial👇 to walk you through it, so you can follow along and practice before jumping into the hat. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll see how easy (and addictive) this stitch really is.
