How To Crochet A beginner’s crochet cowl pattern?
There are two options for a crochet cowl:
Option # 1 – crochet a flat rectangle and seam it to form a cowl
Option # 2 – crochet on the round so you do not have a seam.

Let’s get to the pattern, shall we? Making an easy crochet scarf
Difficulty
Materials
Stylecraft Special Chunky, 100 gr, 100% Premium Acrylic. 144 meter / 157 yards, shade: watermelon, 48 gr approx 120 yards

Hook: US Size I-9 (5.5 mm)
Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape
Gauge
- 12 st X 7 rows ( v St) 4” X 4”
Sizes
- this sample is 7.5” tall X 22” in circumference
Stitch Key
- Ch = Chain
- Sc = Single Crochet
- St = Stitch
- Dc = Double Crochet
- Yo = Yarn over
- Slst = Slip stitch
Specialty Stitch
V Stitch = ( dc 1 +ch 1+dc 1) in same st, skip 2
Notes
- This pattern is written in US terminology
- This pattern is worked in rounds
- Ch3 does count as st at the beginning of each row
- Ch1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch
- This pattern uses pattern repeats.
Instructions
Chain 61
Round 1: Hdc1 in 2nd st from hook, hdc 1 in next stitch and across to end of the round, slst to 1st st (60)
Round 2: Ch 4 ( dc +ch1) in 1st st, dc 1 in same st (1st Vst), skip 2 st, *[V st in next, skip 2 st]* repeat from *to* to last 2 st, slst to 3rd ch of ch 4 at the beginning of round. (60) 20 V ST
Round 3: Slst to ch 1 space, (ch 3 +dc 2) in ch 1 space, dc 3 in next ch 1 space and around in each ch 1 space, slst to 3rd ch of ch 3 at the beginning of round. (60) 20 CLUSTERS
Round 4: Slst to 2nd dc of 1st dc 3 cluster, (ch 3 +ch 1+ dc 1) on top of 2nd dc from prev row cluster, skip 2 st, *[V st on top of 2nd dc from prev cluster, skip 2 st]* repeat to end of round, slst to 3rd ch of ch 3 at the beginning of round. (60) 9 V ST
Now we make a plain hdc round
Round 5: Ch 1, hdc 1 in next st and around to end of round, slst to 1st st (60)
Round 6: Ch 4 ( dc +ch1) in 1st st, dc 1 in same st (1st Vst), skip 2 st, *[V st in next, skip 2 st]* repeat from *to* to last 2 st, slst to 3rd ch of ch 4 at the beginning of round. (60) 20 V ST

Finishing
Secure yarn, cut, and weave in ends
Block the scarf.
