Who is Andrea from YarnAndy?
Looking for variety? Some Ami, some Tunisian, and some crochet wonders?
I am so excited to showcase Andrea on our page. Her work makes you want to try all the shapes in the world!
Andrea, in her own words
My crochet design journey started in 2016 out of curiosity and wanting to create something unique, having learned to crochet a few years prior. Since then I’ve been experimenting with shaping and texture in both regular crochet and Tunisian crochet.
I’m drawn to intricate designs and creating projects that look complex, but are easy to make. I play with charts, short rows and increases to create round, flowing objects with delicate texture.
You will find this in rounded shawls and capelets, garments with armhole, neckline and bust shaping, hats, mittens. Anything that can have shaping for a better fit, really.
Being an autistic person with sensory sensitivities, I’m also passionate about garment fit and shaping. This is why for the past few years I’ve been exploring the best practices in garment grading for inclusive sizing and inclusive shaping and applying those to my garment patterns.
I never run out of ideas of patterns to create, so my hope is that I can keep doing design work for many years to come. There’s so much left to explore!
