Boho Crochet Wall Hanging Pattern, Ready to Hang in a Weekend

boho style crochet wall hanging

I’ve been wanting to redecorate my balcony, and there’s this one big grey wall out there we can’t paint or change. Nothing seemed to fit it until I made this.

Quick answer: This is a boho crochet wall hanging in a chevron ripple stitch, using a granny cluster. Finished with a macrame cord and tassels. Beginner friendly, uses about half a skein of cotton yarn, done in a weekend.

There are 2 ways to get this pattern:

Option 1: You can purchase the individual pattern as an easy-to-read, print-friendly PDF from Payhip

Why the chevron shape works so well on a wall

The granny cluster is what gives this one its texture, three double crochets worked into the same stitch, repeated across the row to build up those peaks and valleys.

Once the color changes land on the ripple, the whole piece reads like something much more complicated than it actually is.

That contrast, simple stitch, striking result, is exactly why I keep reaching for chevron patterns when I want something for the wall instead of the body.

If boho is your thing, the Boho Table Runner has that same relaxed, textured feel.

Difficulty

Easy

Materials

Sport weight cotton blend, self striped yarn, 100 g skein, I used 0.5 skein, or any cotton yarn in any weight (adjust hook size accordingly)

Hook: 4.5 mm

Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape

Gauge

15 st x 7 rows (4″ x 4″) for the ripple pattern

Sizes

This sample is 17″ in height (without tassels) x 17″ in width

Stitch Key

  • Ch = Chain
  • Dc = Double Crochet

Specialty Stitches

Grst = Granny Cluster (dc 3 in the same st)

Notes

  • This pattern is written in US terminology
  • This pattern is worked in rows
  • Ch2 at the beginning of the row does count as a stitch
  • The multiple for the ripple stitch is 25 + 3

Sandra’s tip: Keep your yarn tension a little tighter at the valley points than you think you need to, it’s an easy spot for the stitches to loosen and lose the sharp chevron line. If you want to keep the boho theme going, the Boho Bag Saver makes a nice companion project.

Instructions

For this size: Ch 75+3

Row 1: Grst in 6th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, Grst in next ch, repeat from * 3 more times (total of 4 Grst), ch 2, Grst in next ch (this creates our 1st point), **skip 2 ch, Grst in next ch, repeat from ** for a total of 4 Grst, skip 5 ch, Grst in next st (this creates the valley), repeat this sequence of point and valley across to the end of the row, you should have 3 ch, skip 2 and dc 1 in last ch, turn.

Always have 4 Grst on each side of the points and valleys, as shown in the photo.

Row 2: Ch2, Grst in between the two Grst from previous row, Grst in next 2 more times, when you reach the point, *(Grst + Ch2 + Grst) in ch2 space, Grst in next space between 2 Grst from previous row 3 more times, skip 2 Grst and Grst in next space (this is the gap for the valley), keep your yarn tight, Grst 3 more times to your next point, repeat from * to end of row, finish row with dc1 on top of turning ch, turn.

Repeat Row 2 as many times as your desired height for the wall hanging.

For this sample size, I worked 23 rows.

Finishing

Secure yarn, cut, and weave in ends.

I used a macrame cord inserted through the valley and pre-made tassels for decoration. You can use a craft wooden pole to hang it.
