What can I tell you about this Easy Spike Stitch Headband pattern?
- If you are very slow crocheter it will take you maybe an hour, but I trust you can have it done in much less time/
- I used #4 yarn but you can switch to bulky or even chunky- just count your stitches and measure the circumference!
- I know I do not give you all sizes. it is because it is so easy you can figure it out in minutes!

Let’s get to the pattern, shall we?
Difficulty
Easy, Beginner
Materials
- Cygnet Chunky, 100gr 100% Superior Acrylic, 156 m, the color pink and grey, I used 33gr or any #4 yarn
- Hook: US Size H-8 (5 mm)
- Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape
Gauge
- 12 st X 9 rows
Sizes
- This sample is: 21” in circumference X 4” in width
Stitch Key
- Ch = Chain
- St = Stitch
- Dc = Double Crochet
- Yo = Yarn over
Specialty Stitches
Spike Dc = Spike double crochet stitch ( Yo, insert hook in sc from two rows below, yo and pull a long loop, finish dc)
Notes
- The pattern is worked in rows
- Ch2 does count as st at the beginning of each row
- You can work this pattern with one color or multiple as you wish- I used two colors
- If changing colors make sure to have a changing technique and weave your ends in. Watch this video
Instructions
Chain 42+3
Row 1: Dc 1 in 3rd ch from hook, dc 1 in next and across to end of row, turn (43).
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1st st), dc 1 in next 2 st, *[ch 2, skip 2, dc 3 in next 3 st]* repeat from *to* to end of row , ch 1,turn
Row 3: Sc 1 in 1st st from hook, sc 1 in next and across to end of row , turn
Now change color
Row 4: Ch 2, dc1 in next 2 st, *[Spike dc 1 in next 2 st, dc 1 in next 3 st ]* repeat from *to* to end of row, turn
Row 5: Ch 2, dc 1 in next st and across to end of row, turn
Row 6: Ch 2 (counts as 1st st), dc 1 in next 2 st, *[ch 2, skip 2, dc 3 in next 3 st]* repeat from *to* to end of row, ch 1,turn
Change color back
Row 7: Sc 1 in 1st st from hook, sc 1 in next and across to end of row , turn
Row 8: Ch 2, dc1 in next 2 st, *[Spike dc 1 in next 2 st, dc 1 in next 3 st ]* repeat from *to* to end of row, ch 1, turn
Row 9: Sc 1 in 1st st from hook, sc 1 in next and across to end of row, turn
Secure, cut your yarn, and weave in the ends.
Finishing
Fold two sides of the rectangle as shown in the image, the wrong side out.
Sew all parts together.
Secure, cut your yarn, and weave in the ends.
Switch sides of the headband- right side out!
