For this pattern I used bulky yarn- I mean very bulky yarn I had at home.
The label is not so informative because I got it from a yard sale. but it has a bit of wool in it which is not perfect for baskets but gives the yarn so much texture!
I recommend using 100% cotton or acrylic yarn for storage items.

Let’s get to the pattern, shall we? Making the Bulky yarn crochet basket – Rosy
Materials
Alize Klasik Burcum, 100 gr, 100% Premium Acrylic. 210 meter / 230 yards, Total use of 38 grams, 87 yards
Or any weight #4 yarn
Hook: US Size K-101/2 (6.5mm)
Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape
Gauge
- 9 st X 11 rounds ( 4″ X 4″)
Sizes
- This sample is 4” in height and 18” in circumference
Stitch Key
- Ch = Chain
- Sc = Single Crochet
- St = Stitch
- Dc = Double Crochet
- Yu = Yarn under
- INC = Increase round
- Slst = Slip stitch
Specialty Stitch
Front loop Single Crochet = Insert hook in the front loop of the stitch, yo, pull through a loop- now with two loops on your hook, yo and pull through both loops
Notes
- This pattern is written in US terminology
- The pattern is worked in rounds
- Beginning ch1 does not count as 1st st
- Ch 3 at the beginning of the round counts as a stitch
- This pattern is worked in three parts: the base, the body, and the edge of the basket
Instructions
Foundation chain: chain 4 and sl st to 1st ch to form a circle or use the magic circle method
The Base
Round 1: ch3(counts as 1st dc), dc 9 in the circle, sl st to 1st ch of ch3 to close the round (10 st)
Round 2🙁 Inc round) ch3(counts as 1st dc), dc1 in the same st as the ch3, dc 2 in next st, dc 2 in next st and around to end of the round, sl st to 1st ch of ch3 to close the round(20 st)
Round 3: (Inc round): ch3(counts as 1st dc), dc1 in the same st as the ch3, dc 2 in next st, dc 2 in next st and around to end of the round, sl st to 1st ch of ch3 to close the round (40 st)
You should have a 6” diameter circle
Here we stop Increasing and begin working on the body of the basket

The Body
Round 4: ch1 ( does not count as st), Flsc in 1st st from hook ( insert hook in front loop only of st from prev round), flsc in every st to end of the round, sl st to ch1 to close the round (40 st)
Round 5: ch1 ( does not count as st), Yarn under single crochet ( insert hook, yarn under your hook, pull through and finish your single crochet stitch), repeat in every stitch around to end of round (40 st)
Repeat Round 5 eight more times or as high as you wish your basket to be.
The Edge
Round 15: Ch1, sc1 in 1st st from hook, sc1 in next 2 st, ch3, sc 1 in next 3 st, ch 3, sc 1 in next 3 st and so on around to the end of round. Sl st to ch1.
Finishing
Secure the yarn, weave in the ends, and cut the yarn.
