Look, I get it. You’ve just finished that gorgeous shawl and you’re itching to show it off.

But trust me, a little patience goes a long way.

Blocking makes your work look crisp, professional, and honestly? Just plain better.

It’s especially amazing for natural fibers and lace patterns – turns your “eh, it’s okay” into “wow, I made that?!”

Here’s what you’ll need for some wet blocking action:

Something to block on (fancy mats are nice, but your carpet works too!)
Pins (rustproof, please!)
Gentle soap (wool wash is great, but mild shampoo works in a pinch)
Lukewarm water
A towel

Let’s Do This!

Bath Time: Fill your sink with lukewarm water and a splash of soap. Dunk your project and let it soak for about half an hour.

Squeeze (Don’t Wring!): Gently press out the water. No twisting!

Towel Burrito: Roll your project in a towel to soak up excess water.

Pin It Down: Lay it out on your blocking surface and shape it. Use pins to hold everything in place.

Wait It Out: Let it dry completely before unpinning. I know, the waiting is tough!
