Hey there, crochet fanatics! Sandra from Sandra Stitches here, and today we’re diving into something special: My Hooks and Needles crochet box review. Hooks & Needles, a company that sends subscription boxes for crocheters and knitters, reached out and asked if I’d like to review one of their boxes. Of course, I said yes!
So, I’m going to give you my honest, unfiltered opinion.
Full disclosure: This isn’t a sponsored video. However, I do have an affiliate link and a coupon code for you if you decide you want to give it a try! Use SANDRA20 at checkout for 20% off your first box (you can find the link here: Hooks & Needles).
Overall, I think this is a really nice box, especially if you’re just starting out with crochet. But let’s get into the details!

What’s Inside the Box? An Unboxing Experience
The box itself is super cute. It says, “Your Yarn Full Dreams Begin Here,” which is a sweet touch, right? Let’s take a look at everything I found inside.
The Booklet/Magazine
First up is a booklet, almost like a mini-magazine. The paper quality is great, it feels really nice. Inside, there are greetings, instructions on how to read crochet charts (super helpful!), and best of all, patterns! Every box includes three different patterns. This box had patterns for:
- A headband
- A rabbit amigurumi
- A woven storage basket
What’s great is that the patterns include both written instructions and photographs. So, even if you’re a visual learner, you’ll be able to follow along easily. They really are beginner-friendly. As a bonus, there’s even a cinnamon cookie recipe included and a “become our next crafting star” contest!

The Yarn
Next, we have the yarn! The box included three skeins: two in a beautiful blue, and one in a speckled gray. The yarn is made in Portugal, which is pretty cool. It’s a 4 weight, medium yarn, made of 97% Merino wool and 3% Viscose. It feels really soft.
Now, I’m not sure if I’d use Merino wool for a baby amigurumi. Maybe it’s not the best choice for something that a baby might put in their mouth. Plus, those little speckles might come out. However, I could definitely use the pattern with a different yarn. And the basket and headband patterns would work great with this yarn! I love the blue color, but I’m not 100% sold on the gray with it. But color choices are always a matter of personal taste, aren’t they?
The Crochet Hook
The box also included a 5mm ergonomic crochet hook. It’s a really pretty pink color!
Yarn Needles & Wooden Storage Box
Okay, this is cool. A wooden storage box for yarn needles! It comes with three yarn needles inside. I love this. I’ve been using a plain plastic box for my yarn needles, so this is definitely an upgrade! It’s those little extras that make a subscription box feel special, don’t you think?

Amigurumi Stuffing
Of course, you need stuffing for amigurumi projects. The box included some, likely for the head of the little bunny. As I said, I will probably use it, but with a different yarn than the Merino.
Craft Scissors
And last but not least, a pair of craft scissors! I actually didn’t have a pair of these, even though they’re super popular. So, I’m excited to have them now!
Subscription Box Deep Dive: Is it Worth the Cost?
Okay, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: is the Hooks & Needles box worth the money?
Here’s what you need to know about their subscription options:
- You can buy just a single box.
- You can choose a 3-month plan.
- You can choose a 6-month plan.
- You can cancel your subscription at any time.
This would make a fantastic gift for the yarn lover in your life! And as I mentioned before, the patterns and contents are very beginner-friendly, so it’s a great way to get started with crochet.
So, what about the value? According to Hooks & Needles, the materials in the box are worth around $85. They sell the box for $34.97. But, if you use my coupon code (SANDRA20), you’ll get your first box for only $27.97!
Of course, the 3-month and 6-month plans offer even bigger discounts. The longer you subscribe, the more you save.
