Crochet Tote Bag Pattern – The Sunset Stripe Tote

I’m so excited to share this crochet tote bag pattern with you! The Sunset Stripe Tote is one of those easy, relaxing makes that you’ll actually use all the time.

I designed it to be simple enough for beginners but still fun for experienced crocheters who want a quick project.

Worked in sturdy cotton with cheerful stripes, this tote is perfect for summer days, market runs, or even carrying around your latest crochet project.

And of course, you can make it in any colors you love to really make it your own.

Choosing the Right Yarn for Your Crochet Tote Bag

When it comes to making a crochet tote bag, cotton yarn is always my first choice. I

t’s strong, durable, and holds its shape so much better than acrylic or other fibers.

A cotton yarn crochet bag like this one can handle everyday use, whether you’re filling it with groceries, yarn, or summer essentials, without stretching out too much.

Plus, cotton is breathable and gives your bag that clean, crisp look that’s just right for a crochet summer bag.

Of course, you could experiment with other yarns if you like, but for a tote that’s both sturdy and stylish, cotton really is the winner

Do You Need to Line a Crochet Tote Bag?

You may wonder if it’s essential to line your crochet tote bag.

The short answer is no.

It really depends on how you plan to use it. I personally didn’t line my Sunset Stripe Tote, and it works beautifully as a crochet summer bag for yarn, books, or light market runs.

Cotton yarn already gives the bag a nice, sturdy structure. That said, if you want to carry smaller items (like pens, keys, or makeup) and don’t want them poking through the stitches, adding a simple fabric lining can be a great option.

Lining also gives any handmade crochet tote a more polished finish. So, think of it as a personal choice, practical if you need it, but definitely not a must.
