Sizing Guide for the Textured Headband
This stitch pattern is easy to size because your starting chain controls the width, and the number of rows controls the length.
Width (height of headband)
With Ch 14 using worsted weight (4) yarn and a 5 mm hook, the band measures approx. 5.5 in / 14 cm tall.
(Adjust width by adding or subtracting chains; each additional chain adds ~0.25 in / 0.6 cm.)
Length (head circumference)
| Size | Head Circumference | Suggested Length | Approx. Rows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baby | 14–16″ (35.5–40.5 cm) | 13–14″ | 15–17 rows |
| Toddler | 16–18″ (40.5–46 cm) | 15–16″ | 18–20 rows |
| Child | 18–20″ (46–51 cm) | 17–18″ | 22–24 rows |
| Teen/Small Adult | 20–22″ (51–56 cm) | 18–19″ | 25–28 rows |
| Adult | 22–23″ (56–58.5 cm) | 19–20″ | 30–33 rows |
| Large Adult | 23–24″ (58.5–61 cm) | 20–21″ | 34–36 rows |
Tip:
Because the stitch has natural stretch, aim for 1 inch (2.5 cm) shorter than the actual head measurement for a snug, comfy fit.

Instructions
Chain: 14
Stitch count: 12 hdc each row
Row 1
Chain 14.
Hdc in the back loop only of the 3rd chain from your hook, and in each chain across. (12 hdc)
Row 2
Ch 2 and turn.
Work 2 hdc right into the gap between your first and second stitches.
Skip the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the next gap. Repeat across.
Place 1 hdc around the ch-2 at the end to keep your edge neat. (12 hdc)
Row 3
Ch 2 and turn.
You’ll see those little “V” shapes from the pairs you made last row.
Skip the first 2 stitches and work 2 hdc in the middle of the first V.
Continue placing 2 hdc in each V down the row.
End with 1 hdc around the ch-2 again. (12 hdc)
Rows 4–45
Repeat Row 3 until your headband reaches the length you like I worked 46 rows.
Finishing
Fold your headband in half so the short edges meet.
Ch 1.
Slip stitch the edges together: go under the full stitch on the side you’re finishing and the leftover front loop from Row 1.
Work your way up the seam, fasten off, and weave in your ends.
Turn your headband and enjoy!
