Professional Texture & Retro Style: A Feature with Farrah Tate (The Crochet Fix)

In the professional world, we often look for a “fix”a solution that is both efficient and high-quality. Farrah Tate, the designer behind The Crochet Fix, has mastered this balance.

By day, she manages ICT Solution Designs; by heart, she creates textured, functional art that brings a sense of calm to a busy life . Based in South Australia, Farrah’s work is a sophisticated blend of retro styling and modern utility.

Every month starting in April 2024, I will post a new crochet designer showcase here for you all.

The crochet community is wonderfully welcoming and generous, offering a special opportunity to connect with designers that truly feels like a privilege!

Who is Farrah from The Crochet Fix?

Farrah, in her own words

Crochet has been my favourite hobby ever since I was a little girl. I taught myself to crochet from a library loaned book at the age of seven and quickly became hooked on the craft. Crochet has brought me much joy over the years. During stressful times in life crochet has been the calming, wholesome ‘fix’ that has kept me going.

I love teaching others to crochet and have taught countless people over the years in numerous different settings, including a pub during a lively Friday evening session! I currently volunteer as a co-host of ‘Yarnistas’ – a free, monthly crochet catchup in the heart of beautiful Unley, South Australia.

I live in South Australia, with my partner, our two boys (a tween and a teen), and our two feline household ‘bosses’! I work as an ICT Solution Design Manager by day. My pattern designing began as a hobby many years ago when I created the Spoke Flower Blanket and makers kept requesting the pattern. It has remained a very popular design and a finished version of the blanket (hooked by Jonah’s Hands) was featured on a Sesame Street episode.

Being a very busy maker myself, my favourite crochet projects and designs are quick, fun and functional. I have a special fondness for unique, textured stitches and enjoy Boho and retro styling. One of my very favourite projects to make, design and gift are crochet coasters. I was so surprised to find so many other makers love them too. I have so many more cute coaster designs planned, just waiting to be hooked and documented. I look forward to sharing these with you too.
